Currency Collage
This exercise will count as one of the Second Quarter Exercises ("Collage"). Even if you already created a collage, this is excellent practice and you should do this one for extra-credit or to count it as one of the twelve exercises you were to complete for this quarter. As the Publishing Director for a large accounting firm, you've been asked to design a banner for the new International Monetary Division Web Site. They've asked that you include paper currency, and coinage of countries of your choice. You decide which techniques to use (already learned in class) to create an interesting and attractive collage of those items.
1) Go to Google or other Search Engine and select pictures of currency, money, bills and coins - a total of 6 to 10 pictures (good variety).
2) Create a new document in Photoshop and save as Currency: an 8" W x 6" H image, RGB Color, 8 Bits, Resolution: 100, Background Color or White (your preference)
3) Now you will select some of the pictures you found (whole pictures or sections of them) and move them into you new document. It's easier if you import -in Photoshop- all the chosen images and then, decide which images, coins, bills or groups of items you'd like to use for your collage. You could use the Magnetic Lasso Tool to select one or more bills, or select individual coins or groups of coins and drag them into your Currency document. You can use the Elliptical Marquee Tool to select individual coins (to make it easier) and place different coins in different areas of your collage. You can also use the Free Transform command to turn the pictures around or to enlarge or reduce them. You can change the Opacity of some of the images, erase the edges, change the order of the layers, etc. You can also add text with Blending Options in your collage (change the orientation or drag the Fill Slider all the way to the left for a cool effect, like the above sample created by Mrs. Feld. Save this exercise as a JPEG in the Server under your Second Quarter Photoshop Exercises, under your name. Get creative!
