Fourth Quarter
This Fourth Quarter, starting April 7, 2010, we will start with the first two exercises: creating two Posters. For Poster No. 1, please follow the instructions for the National Poetry Month Poster (you can find samples of posters in iLife06 in a folder called "Posters" and also in the "4thQ Exercises" Folder under PHOTOSHOP). For Poster No. 2, you can also look at samples of posters in iLife06 and come up with your own interesting poster (it can be an advertisement, a Movie poster, a Broadway poster, or anything else - get creative!) The idea is to review Photoshop techniques already learned in class, use some blending options, add some text, change the opacity of images, etc.
Mrs. Feld will also show you a few new techniques during a couple of class exercises; like using Blending Options to blend one picture into another. And depending on the time we have, we may do a few textbook exercises as well.
There is also a "Final Project," which will mostly determine your Fourth Quarter Grade (two test grades). This project is due May 14, 2010. You should submit a typed report to Mrs. Feld no later than April 16, 2010 indicating chosen topic, purpose of your project, general ideas (first 5 entries in the Project's Rubric). If it's a group project (two students), please type the names of both students. You have three options to choose from:
I. One Option (Option No. 1)
Creating your own "Personal Mission Statement" - this is an individual project. You will create your own short iMovie Presentation about your "Mission Statement." A personal mission statement can be a very important addition in your resume and college application. Employers and college admission directors take notice and your chances of being hired or accepted are much greater. You will create you own short iMovie Presentation about your "Personal Mission Statement." If it's easier for you to use PowerPoint first, and then create individual slides that you can photograph (using the Command + Shift + No. 4 Keyboard Shortcut to select each slide) - you can do so. Your iMovie presentation will have at least the following slides:
1. First Slide: A Title Slide which should include one of your Photoshop creations and the title "My Personal Mission Statement" and your name.
2. Second Slide: Slide for "My Successes."
3. Third Slide: "My Most Important Values" (underlining or bolding the most important one for you).
4. Fourth Slide: "My Goals and Dreams."
5. Fifth Slide: "My Personal Mission Statement."
6. Sixth Slide: Your favorite Quote.
You may add some of the pictures you scanned for the "Story of My Life Project" or other pictures.
II. Another Option (Option No. 2)
Public Awareness Project - you will select a topic of interest and create a Public Awareness Movie/Presentation. You may work individually or with another student (no more than two students per group). What interests you? How can you help in your community? What issues need our attention? How can we improve ourselves? How can we improve others? How can we improve the environment? How can you make a difference? You may pick from the suggested topics or select your own (according to your preferences). Mrs. Feld has to approve the chosen topic. You can use the school's camcorder, digital cameras, online images, etc. If you decide to include a You Tube movie, Mrs. Feld can download it for you.
III. Another Option (Option No. 3)
The idea is to coordinate with another teacher and decide what kind of project you can work on to get credit on both subjects (Digital Applications and Subject Chosen). The project should include creating a movie, using the iMovie Presentation Program or a Slide Show, using iPhoto or PowerPoint. You can also use digital camcorders and digital cameras. One or more of your slides should include a Photoshopped picture. This project should take you one or two weeks to complete. It cannot be just a poster in Photoshop - a poster can be part of the project to add to your iMovie or other presentation. If you decide to use a You Tube movie, Mrs. Feld can download it for you.
You can get very creative while working on these projects. Mrs. Feld will give you the instructions and rubric of the project selected. Please follow the instructions carefully. For those who have a B+ average in Digital Applications, this final project will determine whether you will be exempted of taking the Final Exam. For those who don't have a B+ average, this project will help you get a better grade this Fourth Quarter and improve your overall course average.
Thanks for your cooperation!
REMINDER: May 5th is the "Art Exhibit" (same day as the Honors Convocation). We will also have a "Digital Art Exhibit" that day. I need your help selecting your best digital art work, or creating new ones worth exhibiting; so that we can print it in special paper, frame it and put it in the exhibit. I will need some volunteers to help me set-up for that day. You will get your work back.
