Assignments for December 5 & December 6

Dear Students: Sorry I cannot be in school today. Please read the following assignment carefully.

Your assignment is to create a Poster* using a few of the Photoshop techniques already learned in class.

1. First, look at the sample posters in the iLife06 folder (connect to the Server). Find the Posters folder and look at them carefully and get ideas. You can also find posters online (Google Images).

2. Decide what type of poster you wish to create (it can be a Movie Poster, a Poster for a Travel Agency advertising a specific country or place, an Inspirational Poster with a Quote or any other type of poster). You can also get ideas on how to design a good poster online (type “poster design” or “how to design a poster” on Google).

3. The poster measurements are: 8.5” x 11” or 11” x 8.5” (Portrait or Landscape Orientation – your choice). RGB Color, Resolution: 100.

4. Add at least three images to your poster and add Blending Options of your choice (Drop Shadow, Inner Glow, Outer Glow, etc.)

5. Add text (like movie title, and/or names of director and actors, or a quote, or any other form of text important to create a professional-looking poster depending on the theme you selected). If you are advertising a travel location, the name of the country and a promotional phrase, etc.

6. Add some of the techniques learned in class (create your own brush or use one of the brushes already created in class, or add a frame to your poster, or add a pattern to an image, or change the color of some images, or add some filters, or change the opacity, or add a style to your background, or add a gradient, or desaturate the background, etc.) – Get creative!

7. You can help each other, but this is an individual assignment and I will count it as part of the Test (you are having on Wednesday, December 7, 2011).

8. When done, make sure you save it in the Server under your name, under Second Quarter Exercises as a Photoshop document (.psd). Name: YourName-Test (make sure you put your name on it, so when I save them in my flash drive I don’t have to add your names myself).

9. Tell me in a typed document with your name, date and Period No. on them what you created. Explain your poster and tell me which techniques you used (very important when I’m grading your work – so I can pay more attention to what you did and the “details”).

10. THANK YOU!

* What is a Poster?

A Poster is any piece of printed paper designed to be attached to a wall or vertical surface. Typically posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians and films), propagandists, protesters and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to original artwork. Another type of poster is the educational poster, which may be about a particular subject for educational purposes.

Test: Don't forget to study for the test you are having on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Review the previous entry (below). Complete the four puzzles I gave you and let me know tomorrow if you have any questions.
