Lesson 5 - iMovie
Before we do the textbook exercise "Sgraffito Technique" Movie, page 158, I need you to create a small slideshow/movie with pictures of your choice. By now, you should have the three iPhoto books (in PDF form) in the Server (in the Digital Apps folder under your name). Please do have a separate folder "DA First Quarter" there so that I can find your work to grade more easily. I really appreciate this.
Practice changing the timing on your clips, adding titles, adding transitions, adding music, and trimming it down, adding special effects, etc. When completed (your slideshow/movie) you must convert this iMovie into a QuickTime movie and put it in your folder in the Server (check below for instructions). DO NOT PUT THE iMOVIE IN THE SERVER - JUST THE QUICKTIME MOVIE PLEASE. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Mrs, Feld.
To convert to QuickTime: while your iMovie is open, go to Share > select QuickTime and click Share. Right now we are compressing for a CD-ROM. You also have the option of selecting "Full Quality" for more important projects (so that the movie/slideshow is saved with much better quality).
Reminder: when you create movie/slideshows using iMovie, you usually delete some pictures or text, etc. It's a good idea to get into the habit of emptying the Trash. To do that, just click the small area with the little trash can on the bottom right of your iMovie Interface (window) and then click Empty Trash. After that you can click Empty Trash and Save Project and your iMovie will be saved. It's important to do this so that your movie doesn't take so much room in your computer, the more trash you have the bigger the size of your iMovie.
Once you complete your first iMovie of your choice, go to page 158 in your iLife Textbook and start the Sgraffito Technique movie/slideshow. Also, please connect to the Server, go to iLife06 and go to iLifeLesson05. There you will find the Sgraffito Script mentioned on page 174 and a sample of how your finished product should look like. Please drag both onto your desktop. When you start entering titles on this iMovie, please also enter your name under "Scratching your Designs" on the first clip. I want to make sure that you put the right QuickTime Movie in the Server, and it's also good practice. ASK QUESTIONS!
This iMovie, "Sgraffito Technique" will count as a Test. I will also give you a handout about iMovie on Thursday, Sept. 30th. We will have a Test on October 14th, about the iMovie Application (study from your notes and hand-outs). Please copy the Lesson Review at the end of the chapter, pages 190 and 191. You will also study the Hand-Outs Mrs. Feld will give you and answer the questions on the Review for Test Paper. To answer some of these questions, Connect to the Server, go to iLife06 and find the folder iMovieHD06, drag onto your desktop the PDF File (not the Word Document) and check pages 35 - 37.
After you complete the "Sgraffito Technique" iMovie you will start working on "The Story of My Life" Project. Please ask Mrs. Feld for the instructions and Rubric. Depending on how we're doing with time (I'm flexible) we may be able to finish this project before the end of the First Quarter. Right now I have a due date of October 28th, 2010. We'll see if it's possible to meet this deadline. I don't want you to rush too much, I prefer if you spend the necessary time on this project, so that it can be of great quality! Start bringing Baby Pictures (or other pictures of yourself, your family and friends). We will scan these pictures for this movie.
